This tiger stripe shirt was used in the 1968 movie "Green Beret". It is a movie costume and bears the stamp and serial number of Western Costume, a Hollywood film company. This is not the shirt actually worn by John Wayne. It is part of the costume used in the movie.
According to a book, there is a pattern called John Wayne pattern (we call it Okinawa Tiger) because it is the same as the tiger stripe pattern that John Wayne wore in the movie "Green Beret", but when we look at the actual fabric used in the movie, it is from a different lot and the pattern is almost identical. The pattern is almost the same, but the color and thickness of the fabric are all different. Therefore, this shirt is a John Wayne pattern shirt in the true sense of the word.
The movie was shot in 1966-67, so this is a guess, but considering the cooperation of the U.S. Army, it is highly likely that the movie company ordered the fabric from a Japanese factory that actually manufactures tiger stripes, printed it using the same stamp as during the war, and then procured it for the movie. The fabric has a distinctive color. Other than the movie "Green Beret," the same tiger stripe is worn by the special forces soldiers in "Encounter of the Unknown" directed by Spielberg.
