This is the 2nd Model worn by the protagonist, Travis, in the movie “Taxi Driver.”

The M-65 was adopted in 1965 and, as the successor to the M-51 field jacket, served as the U.S. military’s iconic field jacket for a long period beginning during the Vietnam War.Its functional beauty, born from real combat—such as the hood stowed inside the stand-up collar, four large flap pockets, shoulder epaulets, and a waist drawcord—remains as timeless as ever.

This item is DSA 100-70-C-0523, manufactured by JOHN OWNBEY CO., INC. The size is the popular MEDIUM-REGULAR.

Most captivating of all are the “U.S. ARMY” tape and the “JIMMERLING” name tape still visible on the chest.Furthermore, the unit insignia remains on the sleeves, giving it a presence unique to a jacket actually worn by a soldier—one that clearly sets it apart from a plain M-65. The appeal of a jacket like this, with its original patches still intact, lies in being able to appreciate not just the jacket itself, but the history it has carried through the years.
