The G-1 is the iconic leather flight jacket of the U.S. Navy. This particular jacket was manufactured by Brill Bros., Inc. under a 1971 contract. It is size 40. It is in excellent condition—so good, in fact, that it could be called deadstock.

The G-1 is a classic flight jacket that was adopted by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aviation units toward the end of World War II and remained in service for a long time through the Korean War and the Vietnam War.While it enjoys immense popularity worldwide, partly due to the influence of the movie *Top Gun*, it was originally designed as a practical garment to withstand the harsh conditions of shipboard duty and aerial missions.

This jacket, produced under a 1971 contract, was manufactured toward the end of the Vietnam War. The combination of dark brown shearling and sturdy goatskin is exceptionally appealing. The beautiful grain unique to goatskin, coupled with its excellent durability, means the jacket will develop a richer, more distinctive character as it is worn over the years.

The condition is exceptional, with virtually no signs of wear. The leather retains its firmness and luster, and the lining is also in excellent condition. Judging by its overall condition, it is preserved so well that it could easily be called “deadstock.”

There are a few small holes in the ribbing that appear to be from moth damage, but they do not interfere with wear, and the jacket is in excellent condition for a vintage G-1.

G-1 jackets from the early 1970s have been gaining in popularity in recent years, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find well-preserved examples. Size 40 is a “golden size” that’s highly popular among Japanese buyers, and we confidently recommend this jacket not only for collectors but also for those who want to enjoy wearing it.
